The Kitega Community Center is is also involved in community empowerment, training the local community members and equipping and equipping them with skills, knowledge and resources to improve the standard of living.

Disability not Inability

For a long time, the centre has focused on children with learning difficulties, many were rejected by their parents and guardians. The parents believed that the children’s disabilities were linked to curses and evil spirits, and thus many parents overlooked the children’s needs, well-being, and basic human rights.Kitega Community Centre has intervened to show that with proper educational and social-emotional support, children with disabilities can learn the skills to be self-sustaining and to make positive contributions to their families and communities.The centre has achieved positive results by changing the attitude of the community towards such children. Education

Kitega Centre has been supported by volunteers and donors who send reading items to the centre. The children are eager and motivated students, but they face significant hardships and lack many educational resources. As a result, we hope to establish a library so that the children can come to practice reading and writing. We also seek to partner with schools worldwide and to find pen-pals for the children of Kitega. Sponsor a child

Kitega Community Centre supports the Millennium Development Goal of achieving universal primary education for all children. Thus, in addition to providing enrichment activities at the centre, we have partnered with local schools to make sure that children with disabilities do not face discrimination and that they have equal access to education. However, many parents struggle to pay school fees and to properly equip their children for school; many children in the community are also orphans and do not have the means to support their education by themselves.
